What We Believe

Mission Statement

The Galileo School is an educational community which fosters equality, excellence and enthusiasm in the learning environment.

Statement of Philosophy

As the region's most innovative school for autism education, The Galileo School provides an optimal environment for top tier academics, artistic fulfillment, and developmental growth.  Our teachers offer the latest teaching techniques and our students receive customized learning plans that meet the needs of their individual learning styles.  We believe that each of our students has incredible abilities and we nurture those abilities through an intensive curriculum of liberal arts, sciences, fine arts, and athletics.

The Galileo School has Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and Elementary School programs designed to help our students to achieve intellectual vitality and educational excellence. We offer a full range of teaching styles and activities, with special emphasis on interdisciplinary and group approaches to student learning and growth.  We also offer the therapeutic services that students with special needs have to help them discover how to succeed in the classroom.  Each of these services are tailored specifically towards each child and so our students get a truly customized learning experience.  Students not only receive tailored therapy plans specific to their needs, but our teachers use individualized approaches in the classroom as well.

In addition to our liberal arts, math, and science education, the fine arts and foreign language are integral parts of Galileo's education.

Galileo students are challenged to achieve high levels of understanding of themselves and respect for others. In keeping with this challenge, the school affirms its core values of equality, excellence and enthusiasm. Galileo believes these principles are essential to its mission, an important part of which is to develop sound moral character. All members of the community affirm these principles and strive to embody them on a daily basis.

    • Equality: All members of our school are equal amongst one another and in society.

    • Enthusiasm: Learning is fun!

    • Excellence: Excellence in education os for everyone.

Galileo’s faculty embraces these core values whole-heartedly and are at the heart of the school. Galileo's teachers are specialists who establish high standards and give students the tools and encouragement to meet them. It is a teacher’s responsibility to balance the challenges of the Galileo environment with a sensitivity to the individual. An essential relationship develops in the classroom where the teaching is personal, exciting, and creative, and extends into the life of the full school community, where the teacher is engaged, accessible and supportive.

Founded in 2008, Galileo is a non-profit school that is governed by a voluntary board of trustees, who have a vested interest in the academic success of children on thr autism spectrum. The school is administered by a head of school who, along with the faculty and staff, implements all school policies and programs. The school values its relationship with each family. When a student enters Galileo, the school also begins a partnership with the student’s parents. It is a partnership built upon trust, respect, and a shared commitment to the intellectual and emotional well-being and growth of the child. In addition, we encourage parents to share their time, talents, and resources with the school in support of its educational excellence.

In summary, the programs provided by the Galileo School will give our students the tools they need to soar to any height imaginable throughout life.  We will them to cultivate an attitude towards their abilities so that they can reach any level of success in life.  We will destroy the myth that autism is a limiting disability and help the world realize the great gifts and unique potential of autistic children.
