Academic Overview

A Specialized Curriculum

For Students with Abilities

At the Galileo School we focus our teaching methods towards students who have one of the autism spectrum disorders or other similar developmental delays.  With this specialty in mind our classes are very different from the public school classroom.  Our class sizes are small with an average 8:1 student teacher ratio.  This allows our teachers to develop individualized learning plans for each of our students while still allowing there to be enough children in the classroom for the student to socialize in a team environment.  We believe that working in teams is critical for students to learn socialization skills from their teammates and we hope that all students will form close friendships with their teammates.

Just because we have small class sizes and individualized learning plans to help students with their social skills, and sensory experiences we do not hold back on the academic rigor of our program.  We feel educatiing children at a level above and beyond the state standards for their grade is crucial to their future in the educational world and in the job market.  We teach advanced math and science from an early age, and integrate technologies like computer training from an early age.  This combined with our liberal and fine arts department gives the students a well rounded education that prepares them for the rest of their life.  We truly leave no child behind in that even the lowest functioning students will be educated at their appropriate grade level and will get the personalized attention that they need until they succeed.

We currently offer a full Pre-K through 4th grade program so please look at our curriculum section to see example of what we teach in each grade.
